Yamaha RGX A2 - Rookie - 16:50 06-12-05

Today I had the chance to try this guitar, and I can say I was pretty
pleased with what I saw. The guitar has nice tones and very good
articulation, though some single coil tones would be nice too. Balance was
very good, and this is certainly the lighter guitar I have seen so far
(some expensive Parkers will be even lighter, but also 10x in price).

The neck was very good too, though it was painted it had a nice grip, and
the shape was ideal for my hands. Also very good finish and almost
spacetime design, and a very modern bridge.

Sound was nice and the absence of inlays was quickly overcome. I didn't
have the chance to try it as much as I should, but certainly the sound was
full with good definition.

There were a few things I didn't like though: the rotary pickup switch felt
stubborn and not easy to turn. I would like some coil taps (maybe worth
adding later), and the first and middle positions would buzz until I would
touch some metal part of the guitar, indicating some grounding problem that
may affect only the particular guitar I tried. The guitar I tried was a bit
beaten up, and also 50% more expensive than the online price.

Overal, I have to say I would love a few things different (coil tap options
mainly), but for 400 euros I think I will buy it.

Thats no grounding problem. Just about all guitars do that to some
extent.Humbuckers arent as bad as single coils but will usually have a
little hum. When you touched metal and it quieted down that was the
bridge/string ground doing its job.
