cream reunion - Steve251 - 16:19 02-12-05

just my opinion but i thought the dvd aint much to write home about.
clapton never really uncorked the bomb for my money and the other two look
like they're death warmed over. baker reading lyrics didn't help. mostly
clapton disappointed. what was the amp under his fender tweed?

They showed it on MPT a few nights ago... I'm no Cream fan, and this didn't
do anything to change that...

They played well enough, but..... eh...

There were a lot of camera shots from behind the amps, but I couldn't put a
face on anything.

It's just not Cream with a Strat. I got real tired of Clapton's tone
by the 3rd song. And I'm a Strat man....

Clapton's guitar overpowered everything else too, just like on the
crossroads DVD. Maybe his soundmen are rewarded handsomely for making
sure Eric's always on top.

Re: cream reunion - Steve L - 18:04 02-12-05

I love Cream. And I enjoyed this DVD. But Clapton is such a different
player in 2005 compared to 1968 that there is no way to compare the two
favorably. I thought Jack and Ginger did really well, but Eric doesn't
know how to play that way anymore, and a Strat is just simply the wrong
instrument to play.

The amp is a Tweed Twin Amp. Not sure if its original, reissue or
boutique clone. Although a Les Paul and a Marshall would have been the
right way to go, the Twin sounded fine. Its the Strat that was out of place.

Jack Bruce's bass sound was lame too.. Was that really flat wounds on
that Gibson EB-1 violin bass? Yuck...

I was pretty pschyed to watch it but thought it was medicore at best. All
of them looked bored and somewhat mechanical in their playing. Maybe I just
expected too much from what I consider one of the best bands to come out of
that era. All of them used to be so dynamic in their playing ... oh for the
good old days. No downtuned, power chord droning wannabe heavies back then!
lol

I couldn't usually hear enough bass to make a judgement.

He only played the Gibson bass for the first few tunes. When he
switched to the fretless Warwick, his tone becomes much punchier and
present. Still, he does seem too low in the mix.

Re: cream reunion - Keith Adams - 01:54 03-12-05

The thing about Creem is that them guys werent exactly youngsters in
the mid 60's. They'd already done some hard living. Claptons played
everywhere in front of everyone with anybody who is somebody. Hard to
act like an MTV twerp and put on the fake exited act. .Creem has their
spot in history that nobody thats come along in the past 20 years can
even begin to approach. If the younger of you guys make it to 60 try to
remember the performance Creem put on in 2005. Then maybe you'll
appreciate them for the jamming motherlovers they are. DOODLE DOO DOO
DO DOODLE DO DOOT DOOT DOOT. Thats the intro to Badge dont you know?

From a marketing viewpoint, that's the way it has to be to get sales.
