Mayall, Bluesbreakers & Friends - John Wheaton - 01:08 01-12-05

Excuse the cross post, but both groups will appreciate a DVD that I picked
up today, John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers and Friends. It celebrates
Mayall's 70th birthday, and they have a bit of a Jam to celebrate.

Wow. Buddy Whittington, Mick Taylor, and Eric Clapton on guitar, and it is a
blues tutorial. Frankly, I enjoyed Whittington the best, especially since I
have read about him in ToneQuest, but hadn't heard him yet. A Strat guy,
very clean sound, and an extremely clean player. Clapton on Strat through a
Tweed Twin, and Mick Taylor doing the Les Paul thing thru a BF Fender.

Mayall's voice is, well, Mayall's voice but the musicianship is superb, so
if you get the chance, do check it out!

See ya,
John

The recent recordings of Mayall singing sound better to me than the
Mayall I listened to in the '70s. I've never been a huge fan of his
singing but I think it's getting better.

And who better to listen to if you want to learn to play blues? That'll be a
really cool Xmas gift for sure!
Mayall used to use that haunting 'slight echo' sound on his voice which I
love. A great example of this is his track "All Your Love" with EC on
guitar...'what a great blues number that is! Great to see him alive and
kicking. Is he really 70!

No....Clapton was playing through his Pete Cornish amp loaded with Tone
Tubby speakers. Mick Taylor was playing through a red-knob Fender "The
TWIN" amp.
Buddy plays through a Dr. Z MAZ-38 into a Z-Best 2-12 speaker cabinet.
Buddy's tone was superb.....head and shoulders above the others, IMO.

You either love it, or hate it. I'm a fan.

Did you notice how Mick and Eric both stepped up to bat once they were
challenged by Buddy? Kind of funny, like they decided they couldn't coast
through this one and let the big guy show them up. ;-)

Musicianship and being cool are *so* far beyond this turd's thought
process, he gurgles my cum to find A 440 ;-)

P.S. Bitch? Guns and fists are guns and fists. The guitar is a wonderful
musical instrument. Now slurp!

Have you ever considered a logical, programmed study of harmony and
rhythm? Sure, melody/lead playing fantasy built upon a ten year old's
GC concept of "what chicks dig", expanded to a thirteen-year-olds
*seemed* to work, but, hey 'bro 'bro, be kind to 'yo bad sef! ;-)
