Well I had to go to the local GC for a gift, One thing about GC there so
many it's easy to return a gift. Hardly anyone there so that was nice Played
some Strats, Tele's all the PRS's you have to ask to see, wasn't in the
mood for a car salesmen pitch. Looking at all the guitars there are so many
nice looking guitars for under $500 , It's hard to believe they can make
money. I'm not a big GC fan, but if you know what you want it's hard to
beat, the one big plus they do have, it's certainly a hands on store, were
else can you grab a $5000 Martin of the wall and play to your harts content.
Oh I bought a cry baby, good gift for a college student, I picked the right
name.

They must be making enough money to keep opening stores.

I wish they had Guitar Center in Taiwan, because just about every store here
acts like a car salesman. I just grabbed a guitar to try it out and they're
like "dont touch! if you want to try it out talk to us first"

A guitar store down the street wants you to ask permission first.
There is a good side to that. I've seen "new" guitars at a large Sam Ash
that look like they're beat to death. I usually avoid the larger guitar
superstores because of that.

Between, "new," guitars that are more beat up than any that I own, and
the cacophony of people going on and on and on at too loud volumes who
don't have workaday music gigs and that's the only place they'll have a
captive audience to, "impress," stores with grab whatever and play
through whatever are places of Last Resort.

LOL! Great comments. Some people I just want to go up to and say, "Are
you freakin deaf?" Back in the day a musicians most precious tool was
their hearing.
But their only captive audience is usually the sales people.

I hate that too. They still do that at a bunch of places in the USA. Guitar
Center has changed that to a degree. I like to try out a guitar by myself
because I want to get the feel of it. It's hard to do that when you are
being scrutinized.
BTW, I'm sure Guitar Center will expand into your part of the world.
Especially if there are many more like you who express that interest.

I have to go with the Sam Ash comments --last time I was in New Jersey I
went into a Sam Ash and a Guitar Center on the same day.
At Sam Ash, the sales guys pretty much ignored me entirely. I went back
to look at the Fender Telecasters...they only had four or five models
(MIA, MIA, MIJ, MIK). I could take them down and play them as much as I
wanted. EVERY SINGLE ONE HAD MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH THE FINISH --a couple
of them looked like they'd simply been dropped on the floor, I'm talking
huge gashes all the way to the wood.
At Guitar Center, I couldn't walk five steps without a sales guy running
up to me. When I explained I was just looking, wasn't planning to buy,
they (there were two or three) just smiled and said, no problem, but if
you feel like trying one out, go ahead anyway. Then they walked away.
All of the guitars there looked new (of course, the really expensive
stuff was set high up on the wall, you'd need help to get it down).
Anyway, I will always ask permission before I touch something that isn't
mine --it's the way I was raised and it just makes sense. So why
shouldn't that be true in a guitar store?
