les paul + jumbo frets question - riplead - 11:08 24-11-05

Happy Thanksgiving to all of my fellow guitarists. May your strings never
break during a performance!

I am thinking about getting a Les Paul. Although I'm not a huge country fan,
(I like Satriani kind of guitar sounds), my wife was watching Kenny Chesney
on tv last night, and I heard those Les Pauls, and they sounded so sweet,
compressed, and loaded with sustain. The only thing is, I prefer jumbo frets
for bending ease. The only models I have seen with that are the very
expensive Zakk Wylde model, which I'm not crazy about the finish options on,
and the '59 Reissue. Are there any Les Paul Deluxe type models with larger
frets?

Thanks, and go easy on the bird and beers today!

John

If you like Satriani then get Ibanez JS series... thats what he plays. And
he uses trem ALOT so a Les Paul would not work so well...

I have an Ibanez RG1570 that I love, and the trem works well. I just wanted
to get an LP so I have a hardtail axe that really sustains well.

So why not get an LP you like the sound of and change the frets?
About $250 or so, around here.

I did consider that option but I can't bear to think of a new Les Paul
having the frets and binding ripped out. Plus, you have to have a really
good guitar tech. I was hoping to find a model with jumbo frets from the
factory, other than the models I previously mentioned.

I was also considering a Carvin California Carved Top.
Has anyone checked these out, and what do you think of it?

I have one made in 1980, and the frets are pretty dang big. You should
be able to get a 80's model with big frets for a reasonable price, as
long as you don't mind the incredible weight and heft. Made well, play
good, sound great, and can be used to smash out of a locked meat
freezer if you are missing an axe.

I have an agile al3000 prestige lp with jumbo frets. Look at rondo music.

Re: les paul + jumbo frets question - Keith Adams - 21:18 26-11-05

Just out of curiosity. Why do you want big frets? Intonation is touchy
and just the change of string gauge can throw it off.Too much fret
might make it impossible to get correct.
I dont know because I'm yet to deal with em so I'm hoping somebody here
has . Enlighten me.
