repost: Epi amps - Cable - 09:22 18-11-05

I inadvertantly replied to a thread instead of starting a new post. I'll try
this again:
Anyone try the new Epiphone amps? i seem to remember someone talking about
Epi amps, but I am not sure if they were talking about these new one. They
sound like they'd be pretty good for the price.
They got a good review in the newest catalog I recieved, but then again,
every review is a good one in that. Can't admit they sell junk, right?
Thanks

I've played the Epiphone Valve Jr. a couple of times. It doesn't have a
lot of tonal range. It sounds really good with single coils. It's kind
of lonely at $120 street for a tube amp, but it's worth it, IMHO. It
has more noise than many (single ended, for one thing), and would
benefit from an active EQ before the amp, and probably would sound
better with a better speaker (or fed into a quality cab).
But for $120? Yeah, it's a very interesting amp. Do NOT expect high
gain type of distortion. Expect Champ type smoother power tube distortion.
