Interesting (I think) - Jeff - 11:05 17-11-05

While searching locally on ebay for a guitar for my wife, I found this. Its
a Peavey Prototype with a "FIRST ACT" HB Pup. Starting bid $800. I might be
wrong but I think its a POS.

It's a good guitar with a bottom of the barrel pickup in it.

Peavey is right here where we live, there are Peaveys all over the place.
From $100 on up. So you think this particular guitar is worth $1800 as the
seller says?

I think the USA made Wolfgang guitars were pricey- I don't thnk the
First Act Humbucker is much of a selling point at all- I wouldn't
bother with this. Who knows, someone might think this is a great deal.

He says it RETAILED for $1800. That means it might have sold for a
grand new. The retail price doesn't mean much, it's just a gimmick they
use to trick you into thinking your scoring a great deal.

That said, that's a nice looking guitar, but now-a-days you can get
lots of super nice guitars in that price range.

The seller is saying it sold new for $1800.

He's not saying it's currently worth $1800.

After a quick look around I'd say it's worth about $1260.

IF it retailed for $1800 (are you taking HIS word on that?), it would sell,
brand new, street price, no dickering, anywhere, for $1260. In real good
shape used, it's worth about half of original retail, $900. Dock it down
from there for the Wal-Mart pickup, and more for fact that it was owned by a
dunderhead who would do that.

Also- beware of the "no serial number" thing. I seriously doubt it's a
"rare prototype" as the seller claims. It could be a knock-off, or a
stolen guitar with the number removed.

THAT ESCAPED THE FACTORY WITH OUT EVER HAVING A SERIAL NUMBER OR
HAVING BEEN SOLD THROUGH A RETAIL OUTLET WE BELIEVE.

How did they get a hold of it?

No serial#=no manufacturer warranty

I'm basing that number on finding 10 Archtop Peavey Wolfgang's that
sold on Ebay and averaging the price. It was much higher than $900.

$1260 was a rough number. The hard tail is not common and the replaced
pickup would lower the price a bit.
