My brothers Guitar - Jeff - 20:42 14-11-05

So my brother and his family who are having some financial trouble, they
live in a travel trailer in Williamsburg Virginia. Well, he doesnt have a
lot to do for leisure (He does work) and before he left here he bought an
Ibanez Dreadnought for $90. He played that thing every single day. It is (Or
was) his only entertainment. Anyway, to make a long story short. He took his
car after work, drove to the river and had 3 beers (His first beers in about
2 years, trying to relax I guess). He stayed there until 9 PM and went home.
When he got there, his idiot wife came out and slung his guitar (Which she
knew would be the only thing that could hurt him) at his car, destroying his
guitar. He doesnt have the money to buy another one. So, I am going to get
him one. Problem: I dont have a lot to blow on him a guitar. Christmas is
coming and I have a lot of people to buy for. So, I was looking at this:

http://www.rondomusic.net/dg25cvt6.html

My problem there is that shipping drives the price up to more than I want to
pay. I was thinking of finding something at Guitar Center and paying here
and having him pick it up. Anyway, any suggestions? NOTE: Get a new wife has
already been suggested.

Jeff,
How about a Kramer D-110 (~80 bucks with shipping) from musicyo.com? I
played one...it wasn't spectacular but it got the job done...

Re: My brothers Guitar - Einstine - 20:57 14-11-05

Your brother needs to get his head out of his ass so they don't keep living
in a trailer while he goes to the river and drinks 3 beers.

Get a new wife? You are giving bad advice. You really tried to put a
Pro-Brutha spin on it (His first beers in about 2 years, trying to relax I guess).
Yeah, right.

Sorry but this is a sore subject for me. Rationalization is the worst thing
anyone can do, be it yourself, a brother, or a friend.

Eh, no need to comment on the obvious...

These have gotten fairly rave reviews as great bang for the buck acoustics.
I think even from other posters here on alt.guitar -

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=home/search/detail/base_pid/511192/

under $68 to your door.

Not an heirloom piece, but supposed to be very playable and with a decent
sound.

First off, Ive already told him he needs to get his head out of his ass. At
which point he points out to me he is working 60-80 hours per week doing the
best he can at the moment. Since you do not know the details and have
decided to pass judgement Ill clarify. He's 40. When he was 7 he was run
over by a Baltimore MTA Bus. One leg was nearly amputated, the other
stripped of flesh. His back was broken, his pelvis crushed, his bladder torn
apart and a hole punched through his back clean through to his organs and 6
inches wide and 4 inches tall. He has 54 pins and other mettalic parts in
his body. He doesnt drink alcohol because his system cannot handle it. He
has a problem, when the weather changes (Colder) his skin grafts tighten and
become shiny (best way I can explain it), that in fact is both of his entire
legs. It lays him up in bed and he cannot walk. He gets on his feet, gets
his family in a house and gets everything straight then ends up bedridden.
He and I are convinced (along with his doctors) he probably wont see his
50th birthday. In pain, he forces himself to work until he can no longer
walk. He attempted to fix the problem of having to be in the weather by
moving down here (In SOuthern Miss) with me and we got he and his family a
house, furniture, etc this summer. HIS WIFE, totally disregarding the fact
that her children were finally living near a relative (Thier Aunt, Uncle and
COusins) and totally disregarding the fact that my brother cannot suffer
through even minimal changes in weather conditions decided she hated it here
because she didnt like the way people down here drive. She told him that he
would move them back to Virginia or she would take the kids and leave him.
To keep this bi_ch, he packed up what he could, had a garage sale and on HER
one day notice moved back to Virginia, even though they had a nice house, a
new van, he had a good job in a climate that he could work in year round (Or
almost).

Pro-Brother spin? Yes. Because I know the situation. I know he works hard. I
was standing 5 feet from him when he was ripped apart 33 years ago. And I DO
advocate leaving someone who has no regard for anyone except themselves
(HER!).

I should note that he is eligable for SSDI but doesnt take it because he
believes you should work for a living, not live off the government. His
family has never been on welfare and he has never begged anyone for
anything.

To everyone else, thanks for the Guitar rec's. I think Ill go with the
Rogue.

ovation applause.

every penny.

I've been married to one woman for 21 years. How many marriages have you had?

once again...SHADDAP!!! that has nothing to do with what Jeff was asking.

nobody wants to hear your "better than thou" attitude when you know nothing
of someones situation and decide to tell someone how things should be in
their life.

ALL HE WANTED WAS CHEAP GUITAR IDEAS!!

and I quote einstein:

"Your brother needs to get his head out of his ass so they don't keep living
in a trailer while he goes to the river and drinks 3 beers.

Get a new wife? You are giving bad advice. You really tried to put a
Pro-Brutha spin on it (His first beers in about 2 years, trying to relax I

Yeah, right."

nobody asked YOU, even though Jeff was kind enough to clarify the whole
situation to shut you up.

so... SHADDAP!! If you know where to purchase a cheap acoustic let Jeff
know!

"alt.guitar" buddy, NOT "alt.einstein.21yearsofmarriagesoiknowbetter.guitar"

cheers.

Re: My brothers Guitar - Jeff - 22:58 14-11-05

Thanks to all who responded with reccomendations. I went with and purchased
the Rogue RA-100D. Will be delivered to him in 2-5 days. With a dozen picks
came to 70 bucks and change delivered. I am sure he will appreciate it.

To Einstine, no hard feelings. Your entitled to your opinion.

Once again, Thanks. J
