Solid State amps are not very good IMHO -

It surprises me that anyone would play a solid state amp.
These days you can get a new Epiphone Tube amp for $129.99, so why
would anyone bother with a SS amp when they could have a pro quality
amp?

It's obvious that no serious pro would use a SS amp, unless they
played death metal or something. I mean no pro ever has. Also, all the
working musicians out there know that SS amps suck, so they don't use
them.

Really. It's something anyone that knows anything at all knows.
Case Closed.

I beg to differ...

I'm currently playing through a Peavey Bandit II, and it sounds great. I
will grant you that tube amps sound BETTER, but not ALL ss amps "suck". I
will grant you that a lot off them DO suck canal water, but not ALL.

Epiphone's Valve Junior is a "pro quality amp"? How many pros use
5-watt amps with 8-inch speakers? (Maybe in the studio, but on stage?)

B.B. King is a serious pro, and he doesn't exactly play death metal.
He's used both a SS Lab L-5 and a tube Fender Twin. He sounds great
with both. Other pros who've used SS amps at one time or another are Ty
Tabor (King's X), Duke Robillard, John Fogerty (with CCR), Allan
Holdsworth, Dimebag Darrell (okay, he was metal), and tons of jazz
players. There's more, but that's all I can think of right now.

Yeah, like everyone "knew" that the world was flat and God approved of
slavery. I'll agree that MOST tube amps sound good, and SOME SS amps
suck (especially some early ones). But it's not that simple.

I think you should consider it a parody, not a troll. I don't believe
it's asking you to take it seriously.

Troll my ass. Well perhaps the guy that started it is a troll. I
never chimed in. Use whatever the hell works for you be it tubes, ss,
air or whatever.

I use one or the other. Or the perpetuate the troll thing, is set
neck better than bolt on? I use both of those too. I use either 9-42
or 10-46 string too. Which of those is better? Cables, let's discuss
cable going to the tube or ss amp. I suppose those matter too.

Hehehehe. Just chiming in!

later!

My what is a moron?

Re: Solid State amps are not very good IMHO - Keith Adams - 20:24 07-10-05

At one time I had a SS 2x12 Standell that sounded good .Real good.I'd
recommend that if any of you guys see one for sale at a decent price to
check it out. J. Foggerty used to use SS amps and still may. Pretty
sure that the lead guitar player from the band Boston used SS. The
Epiphone amp probably needs a little tweaking to be useful for anything
besides just farting around. Crappy cabinet, tubes, speaker, plastic
jacks. The usual and to be expected.
