This is the third album by the L.A. folk-rock group led by the singer-songwriter Arthur Lee. It sounds as fresh and innovative today as it did when it was originally released in 1968. With David Angel's atmospheric string and horn arrangements, Lee explores mainstream America's taste for paranoia ("The Red Telephone") and violence ("A House Is Not a Motel") with songs that are as sonically refined as they are lyrically candid and agonizing. It's one of the perfect albums in rock history.
